What is Neurogenic Yoga™?

Neurogenic Yoga™ is a groundbreaking body-based practice designed to build nervous system resilience and support deep healing through gentle movement, breath practices, and the body's natural shaking response. This involuntary tremoring, much like the instinctual shaking seen in animals after a stressful event, is the nervous system's way of discharging held tension, resetting itself, and returning to a state of responsive balance.

While the body is naturally wired to release tension through shaking, societal conditioning often suppresses this instinct from an early age. Neurogenic Yoga™ gently reawakens this innate mechanism, allowing the body to unwind held stress, build greater capacity for regulation, and move through life with more ease and resilience.

How the Practice Builds Resilience

During a Neurogenic Yoga™ practice, we safely self-induce neurogenic tremoring through gentle movement, breath, and body-driven awareness. Often, vibration begins in the legs and spreads throughout the body, releasing tension held in the muscles and connective tissue, and signaling to the nervous system that it is safe to reset and return to homeostasis.

The Body's
Stress Muscle

The psoas are intelligent, responsive muscles, bracing in response to real or perceived threat and holding that tension until they receive the signal that it's safe to let go. Neurogenic Yoga™ gently facilitates the lengthening and release of these deep muscles, creating a ripple effect of relief through the body and a felt sense of safety in the nervous system.

Running from the lumbar spine to the femur through the very core of the body, the psoas contract under stress and can stay braced long after the stressful moment has passed. Neurogenic tremoring works directly with these muscles, inviting them to soften, release, and reset. This is often experienced as a profound sense of relief, openness, and calm.

This method is rooted in Dr. David Berceli's Trauma Releasing Exercises® (TRE®), enriched through the integration of movement and breath into a practice that is accessible to all bodies and experience levels.
